A 39-year-old female asked:

Five month old baby teething. ears seem to be very sore as hands are there permanently. is this part of teething or should i get him checked out?

Maybe/not: Kids at that age do grab their ears when they teethe, since the nerves that sense pain are the same for both (eardrum/teeth) & they can get mixed messages. If there is no fever, change in feeding habits or play activity I would consider just watching it for now.

Pain: Most probably coincidental. Important that your child be seen by his/her Pediatrician as soon as possible.

Have it checked out: While some babies will have teething discomfort and even run a mild low grade fever hen teething, severe permanent ear pain is not typical. This is especially true for a 5 month old and they are not usually teething on back teeth yet. You should have him checked out by your Pediatrician to make sure he does not have an ear infection.
