Many many things: Twitches are also known as fasciculations, which are muscle fibers contracting often as part of a single motor unit. There are many things that cause these fasciculations, including exercise, normal movement, to metabolic, autoimmune, infiltrative, infectious, toxic/metabolic, degenerative etc etc types of situations.
