Is it possible for a colposcope to prolong a menstrual cycle?

Unusual: Any stress on the body, such as surgery, can prolong or alter the next menses. It would be unusual for a colposcopy to cause this. However, if a biopsy was performed, the biopsy site can bleed lightly, usually for a day or two. Prolonged bleeding should be addressed by the gynecologist.

What are some reasons a regular menstrual cycle might become very irregular?

Multiple Reasons: There are many. Irregular periods can be hormonal from thyroid disease, elevated prolactin, or from pcos. It can be a sign of aging of the ovaries. Stress can play a role. Something physical like a fibroid or a uterine polyp can also cause that to occur. It is important to have a complete evaluation.

Doctor can evaluate: There are many causes for irregular menstruation. One common one is polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos), a hormonal imbalance along with cysts in the ovaries. Though most irregular menstruation is not acutely dangerous, any woman who does not menstruate monthly should consider seeing her pcp or an ob/gyn for evaluation.
A 38-year-old member asked:

Why is my menstrual cycle not regular after years of being on time every month?

Natural???: A woman's menstrual cycle characteristics change naturally over her life time. You were probably irregular at the start of menses and you will likely be irregular at the end of menses. Before menopause, the cycles become closer together then farther apart and more irregular. Normal women also have changes based on weight, medications and health status. I hope this information helps.
