What's the cause?: Not all edema responds to diuretics. There are many different types of diuretics and they act in different ways. Certain diuretics work better than others in different cases. You need to discuss with your Doctor. You could possibly trial a different class of diuretic. It also depends on what the cause of your edema is.

Depends: sometimes it is due to excessive dietary salt. however, there are a percentage of patients who do not physiologally respond to spironolactone. Most patients your age respond better to loop diuretics like lasix
