A 21-year-old female asked:

is aspartame bad for you? the sparkling water i like contains it, but i heard it causes cancer. any truth??

Nothing after 20 yrs: Since the 1990's, there has been a scare campaign against aspartame as causing everything -- familiar cancers, multiple sclerosis, lupus, brain tumors, chronic fatigue. A few people are clearly allergic. But the science is fabricated, the real authors have eluded identification and the scientific attributions have been fake. My doctor friends are mostly still drinking it.

Even the American Cancer Society, not known for ignoring risks, has dismissed these claims. For me, there's nothing like fresh fruit for sweets, and water for thirst, but it's wrong to deprive people of simple pleasures using disinformation. http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancercauses/othercarcinogens/athome/aspartame

No: No, there is a potential of an injury and a chance of water being forced into the vaginal canal.

What are the benefits of water birth?

Comfort vs risk: Water births are touted for those foregoing pain medicine, especially epidurals. They provide weightlessness, and can help patients manage labor pain better. However, if one chooses to have a water delivery, there can be problems including increased risk of infection, problems with managing the perineum or the head during the delivery, and aspiration, with severe consequences for the baby.

There are a lot of people requesting this form of delivery. I think it is a personal choice and should be made with the help of the provider. I have found an objective article from Web MD I put on my web page. I have personally seen where laboring in the water helped with pain relief but every mother is different. http://kevindausmd.com/links.html

A 32-year-old member asked:

What can I do to ensure the cleanliness of my drinking water when I am traveling?

Water safety: Good question! limit yourself to bottled water, ask for good local brand, sometimes drinking water warm versus cold can kill lots of parasites. You can boil your water, let the sediment sink, decant water into new container and then drink. Avoid asking for ice in your drinks as many times made from unsterile water. Careful also with salads and fruits. If camping you may use portable tablets. Best!

Besides cell phones, what are other sources of rf energy that cause cancer?

Proof of cell: Phone link not yet in, microwaves are relatively safe, but radiation is in the electromagnetic spectrum and is a clear cause, and u-v light is part of the spectrum causing skin cancers. All seem to demonstrate direct links to dose and time of exposure. X-rays seem to have no threshold, but very low doses are very unliklely to lead to individual harm, but to a population, a small number will.
A 40-year-old member asked:

How come there are so many new drugs but we cannot find the cure for cancer?

Cancer is not: One disease, or one genetic chnge, but many. Drugs are poisons with side effects, and tumors are smart enought to learn to resist. Single genetic mutations are cured with miracle drugs. Many drugs now hope to keep cancers at bay and allow you to live with the cancer rather than obliterating it. The most fearsome of cancers is glioblastoma (brain tumors) and pancreas cancer. Few baby steps only.
