how likely would it be that i broke my foot after an american history book fell in it. the book fell out of hands. hurts a little now, worse at first ?

Depends: In general, if the pain is getting better after an injury and you're able to walk on it the likelihood of having a fracture is low. However it also depends on how big the book is and how it hits your foot. The only way to know for sure would be to get an x-ray.
