A member asked:

can past history of foreign body in nose be a cause for nose bleed ?

Unlikely: If a foreign body such as a rock was the cause of the bleeding it is likely the bleeding would have been present all along. One exeption would be if not all of the foreign body was removed. Your nose would react to the remnants of the foreign body and could cause bleeding or foul smelling discharge.
Dr. Robert Kwok
Pediatrics 33 years experience
Recent foreign body?: If a foreign body was recently in the nose, the irritation and abrasions caused by the foreign body may not be healed yet. In this case, a nosebleed may be easier to start in that healing area.
Dr. Kevin Windisch
Pediatrics 25 years experience
Yes: A recent foreign body or the actual attempt to remove it can cause the nose to bleed, so too can a missed foreign body.
Dr. James Ferguson
Pediatrics 46 years experience
How far past ?: You wouldn't expect any nose bleed from a FB removed from the nose a couple weeks or more in the past. If any portion is retained it tends to form a smelly nidus of infection within days that eventually leads to removal.

No.: You can get infection at the site of hair follicles, but you cannot get sores vaginally. You need to be seen by a doctor who can check your herpes viral titers.

What are some complications of laser eye surgery?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Andrew Shatz
Ophthalmology 26 years experience
Very Few: While laser eye surgery (lasik, prk) is very safe, there can rarley be complications that may affect vision. Most commonly, the eye may not achieve perfect vision, and an enhancement may be needed later. Dry eyes can occur and last for several months, and small abrasions may be present for a few days. More rarely, surface skin can sometimes grow under the flap, causing blurred vision.

49 year old with serious nasal congestion, really bad when lying down. Have had this problem for a while?

Dr. Vance Harris
Family Medicine 37 years experience
Seek treatment: Infection can cause congestion as well as bad allergies. There are medicines for both. We have many different medications for severe nasal allergies so see your doctor to know what treatment would be right for you. When you lie down the pressure in the veins of your nasal passages is higher and the congestion is usually worse. That is normal.

What would cause my son's ear to bleed slightly after having swimmers ear?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Cornelia Franz
Specializes in Pediatrics
Inflammation: Is the cause of swimmers ear. The skin gets wet and boggy and inflamed and it could bleed from that or if he picks it at all it could bleed. If he had a middle ear infection as well and the eardrum perforated it could bleed. None of these are terrible problems. If you are concerned it is always a good idea to have it checked out.
