A 28-year-old female asked:

my 1 yr old keeps getting sick, throat sores and croup. he is not around other children, just found tons of black mold in vents. is this causing it?

Can't say: Of the hundreds of strains of dark mold only one is actually toxic. A proper analysis can determine the risk of what you found. You otherwise need to find and eliminate the source of moisture that sustains the mold and eliminate it.Your kid is around you & you can bring home germs that may not give you symptoms. The kid also goes with you to exposure areas..

How can I prevent ear infections in my child?

Airway inflammation: Since ear infections begin with inflammation in the upper airway (nose and throat), parents should avoid situations that may lead to inflammation. These include, but are not limited to: cold viruses, irritants like cigarette smoke, and aeroallergens such as pollen, in certain susceptible children.
A member asked:

How do I know if a bacterial infection is causing my child to vomit and have diarrhea?

Dr. Scott Tomaine

It usually is not: Most of the time stomach bugs are caused by viruses rather than bacteria, and most of the bacterial causes are usually not treated in children. Bacterial stomach bugs are a bit more likely to cause high, prolonged fevers and bloody stools. The biggest worry with GI infections is dehydration. Make sure that your child stays hydrated and have him or her seen if you are at all concerned.
A 26-year-old member asked:

I enjoy sleeping with a body pillow, will that worsen my neck pain during pregnancy?

No: I often recommend that pregnant patients sleep with a body pillow as it can help relieve low back pain in pregnancy. Consider a buckwheat stuffed head pillow or foam head pillow if you find you are not getting proper neck support.

A 19-year-old female asked:

I have puss on tonceles and large bumps on back of tongue and throat but don't hurt. Do u know what could be wrong?

2 doctor answers6 doctors weighed in
Dr. Vance Harris

Probably normal: If you do not have pain and no fever then this may be normal. All of our tongues have bumps on the back of them and just maybe you never noticed them. The tonsils can collect debris and dead cells that slough off and these can collect as small white plugs in the tonsil itself. If there is no pain it is unlikely that you have an infection.
