An er psychiatrist told me years ago that i had psychosis-nos and that leaving psychosis untreated can lead to dementia. is that true/literal?

Treat the psychosis: Untreated psychosis is not good for the brain. See: http://cpa.sagepub.com/content/59/10/513.abstract and http://cpa.sagepub.com/content/59/10/511.full.pdf+html Treatments for psychosis generally treat symptoms; they do not cure. There may be some brain structural benefits, though. Anyone who was told they were/are psychotic needs an ongoing relationship with a shrink or other professional.
