What for?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, if your bilirubin is 8.0 mg/dL you need to be evaluated by a doctor. If it is 0.8 mg/dL, the results are all normal.
