have had small wart near eye for quite some time.it seems bigger today. do they randomly go through growth spurts or is it more likely just irritated?

Sizes vary: Warts produce keratin that falls off from time to time. This is how the spread. If a batch has stayed on longer than usual, the wart looks bigger.
