Confusing question: Infections with group A streptococcus, the main cause of strep throats and certain skin infections, can lead to a kidney problem called glomerulonephritis. Post-strep GN usually is apparent within a few weeks after a strep infection, but sometimes can cause kidney damage that isn't diagnosed until years later. This is uncommon. At 5 years, probably something else explpains the kidney problem.
