Neck pains: Sharp pains in the back of the neck can be due to pinching of the occipital nerve coming out of your neck from arthritic vertebral spurs or disc disease. Another possibility is muscle tension or inflammation. Your physician or orthopedic specialist will examine you and order any appropriate tests, medications or physical therapy.
