Why does acid reflux cause globus sensation in throat?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Austina Cho
25 years experience in Psychiatry
Inflammation: Acid reflux can cause inflammation of tissues or irritation of the nerve endings in your upper airway/GI tract which can be perceived as a sensation of a lump in your throat. Sometimes depression or anxiety which are associated with pro-inflammatory states in your body can cause the same sensation.

Could be, yes: The throat can be in a heightened state of irritability from acid reflux and post nasal drip can trigger tightness.
