See pediatric gi dr: Vomiting has many etiologies in young children. Obstruction to proximal gi tract (stomach and duodenum) has to be excluded usually by fluoroscopic upper gi series. Gastroesophageal reflux and slow gastric emptying are other etiologies to vomiting sometimes utilizing nuclear medicine and gastric emptying studies. Sometimes endoscopy is employed looking for gi inflammation.

You are correct: Phenergan (promethazine) suppositories were used for many years until reports of infants who quit breathing ended the practice. Frequent, small amounts of oral fluid are the usual treatment.Ondansetron(Zofran), an oral dissolving tablet is sometimes used in the US when needed.

Carefully: Normally, I have patients lie on their left side and with their fingers push the suppository into their rectum and wait a few minutes before getting up. Ideally suppositories are taken at night because they are less likely to fall out when lying down.

See below: A suppository is a drug delivery system that is inserted into the rectum (rectal suppository), vagina (vaginal suppository) or urethra (urethral suppository), where it dissolves or melts. They are used to deliver both systemically-acting and locally-acting medications. The alternative term for delivery of medicine via such routes is pharmaceutical pessary.

Probably so: There is rapid mucosal absorption through the rectum, probably faster than passing through the digestive tract.
