How long should swelling last on a injury involving dropping a 10kg weight on. swells up every time it is walked on. not fractured ?

Depends: If still experiencing significant swelling with attempted weight bearing more than a week after initial original injury x-ray is warranted to exclude fracture. If fracture present may require period of protected weight bearing or perhaps immobilization or modified footwear until healed. Worst case scenario could involve surgical stabilization although seems unlikely given mechanism.
