Yes, IgG is safe: Immune globulin (igg) is concentrated antibodies, and helps protect against a variety of infections. It is safe for pregnant women, breastfeeding moms, and infants. Of course, there could be a rare allergic reaction on a rare occassion. Because IgG is purified from other people's blood plasma, there is also a very, very rare chance that something contagious could be transmitted in the injection.

I've heard about the HPV vaccine. Does it protect against cervical cancer?

Yes it does!: Two hpv vaccines, Gardasil and cervarix, are very effective at reducing cervical cancer risk from hpv 16 and 18. Gardasil also reduces risk of genital warts from hpv 6 and 11. Ideally the three doses hpv vaccine should be given prior to starting sexual activity but the vaccines are approved in females 10-25 (cervarix) or 9-26 (gardasil). Recently Gardasil was approved for males to prevent warts.

That is in addition to essentially all cervical cancer, 50% of vulvar cancer, 70% plus of anal cacers, 70% of head and neck cancers and most non-melanoma skin cancers. Plus most abnormal paps and all genital warts. The vaccine works in 99.5% or receipients and is 95+% efficacious against vaginal cancer.

How is it that I can get the h1n1 swine flu vaccine if I have an egg allergy?

Pediatrics 33 years experience
Some ok with vaccine: Many people have only mild allergic reactions to eggs, and some people say the had past egg allergies but now eat eggs without problems. For the mildly allergic, they can get blood-tested and skin-tested. If egg allergy shows up on the tests, they can still talk to the allergist about trying a flu shot under supervision at the clinic. People with severe egg allergy should not get the vaccine.
