Severl guides: calories used not doing anything is 10 x weight 2600. 100 to 600 cal an hour with exercise and 400 cal is a pound. Eating does not cause weight loss. Finding the RIGHT STUFF to eat is irrational. Finding the cues/triggers/habits/situations that trigger eating and dealing with it (with calorie counting) is more reasonable. http://www.amazon.com/dp/0692496157/ details how.

complicated : Multiple factors lead to weight gain. Plain advise maintain emotional stability, reduce anxiety, get 7 to 8 hour of restful sleep, avoid medications that cause weight gain like antihistamines, avoid sugar beverages, processed foods and fried food. Eat 4 to 5 small meals with low glycemic index carbonhydrates, lean protein and vegetables and exercise
