Hare & tortoise.: Do you remember the old fable of The Hare and The Tortoise? The tortoise was not the fastest, but was walked steadily through the race and was not distracted. The faster bunny, goofed off and didn't pay attention and lost the race. True with any field of study. Very smart people who don't study don't pass. People less smart, can with regular, persistent study can no more than most and do well.

Most of us doctors are hares. There are those people who do have either photographic memories or especially capable of filing facts. How they do it I do not know. Work, work, work is the ticket for most of us.

Hard to say: At a listed age of 18 you are young enough to do some things before you sacrifice anything for any goal. Get a good basic education in college with attention to the basic sciences & pre-med courses. If you do well, you can decide then. There are presently 3 applicants for every available position in med school. College weeds out those with less commitment or skills.
