when i tilt my head to the left or backwards, it feels like i'm pulling a muscle in the side, back and top of head. symp are positional. any ideas?

Certainly the: areas from the top of the neck connect to the muscles and skin that go up the head. Muscle spasms in the neck are quite common and tighten up the whole area at the back of the neck and head cannot say in your particular case.
