Rheumatoid arthritis: Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease which affects more women than men, and causes damage to the joints. Joints become warm, swollen, do not bend or straighten completely, and painful. Erosions are damage to the ends of bone and cartilage. You are diagnosed with damaging inflammatory arthritis, probably involving fingers, knees and wrists, but the blood test is negative.

Wt. worsens symptoms: A person's back, hips, knees, and ankles take on a lot of stress when he carries a heavy backpack or gains 50-100 pounds in weight. Obesity can worsen joint problems such as pain, swelling, difficulty walking, or trouble climbing stairs. Even if the original cause of the joint problems were from other diseases or injuries, the heavier a person is, the more wear and tear the joints have to endure.

Do x-rays tell if I have rheumatoird arthritis?

Not really: There may be no changes on x-ray in the early stages. X-ray findings are not necessary in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (ra), but x-rays can add in the diagnosis or following the treatment of ra. Diagnosis can be very straightforward or quite complex for ra. The right diagnosis is important since it needs to be treated to prevent irreversible joint destruction.

Fair: Ra can be treated successfully if treated early with dmard medications such as Enbrel (etanercept) and humira. Multiple medication can be appropriate. If the disease is advanced and not treated it can be crippling. This is a reason why early detection and treatment is important. Seek medical attention rather than accept a notion there is nothing else anyone can do as therapies are constantly changing.

Need information: It depends. I cannot say without more information. Many people are susceptible to developing osteoarthritis (wear and tear) at an early age. Genetics definitely plays a part, in my experience often associated with one's mother's degree of arthritis. There are autoimmune causes of arthritis such as lupus, rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis. Start with your family doctor for evaluation.

See below: Symptoms of arthritis conditions include pain, sometimes swelling, increased warmth limitation of motion, stiffness particularly in the morning after getting up, popping, clicking, giving way or buckling. People often report trouble with stairs or trouble getting up after they have been sitting a while. Not everyone has all of these symptoms however.
