A 24-year-old female asked:

If i cannot get surgery for my untreated umbilical hernia (no money), will weight loss make it less problematic if i'm overweight/almost obese?

Hernia: weight loss may make this less problematic as there will be less force on the defect in your abdominal wall. Weight loss will not eliminate the problem and it will need surgical correction at some point. If you get pain at the hernia site and have a painful protruding mass which you cannot push back in while lying flat then you should seek medical attention.

Weight loss puts: less stress on the body so it can help w/the hernia although not eliminate it. It can do the same for pain, blood pressure, etc. Please follow your doctor's advice and perhaps look into a state insurance program under the Affordable Care Act. Peace and good health.

Will help: Loose weight will help , also if you don't have money may be entitled for medicaid insurance .
