Short period of time: If it is used long time can suppresses hypotalamic-pituitary-adrenal axes. Usually used for 2 weeks if nor response or inadequate response other treatment are considered such as light therapy.

Dr. Y takes a reasonably conservative approach. Though this type of steroid, esp as gel or ointment is high potency, systemic steroid effects are limited to small children. Rare to see local application in adult do this. More likely chronic skin changes might be seen; some would trade this risk for control of disfiguring knee/elbow involvement. And light therapy not w/o risk. Informed pt choice.
