Certain foods: Some foods like beans and cabbage as well as some fruits might increase flatulence, so keeping a food diary might help sort this out. Keep in mind that flatulence (gas) is a normal process.

Why does my baby have so much gas?

Inadequate burping: Usually, the cause of excessive gas is inadequate burping. Make sure that your baby burps with every feeding (some babies need even more than one burp per feed). Try different positions with burping, but just make sure that it comes out, because the gas may make your baby fussy. There are other causes of excessive gas, so don't hesitate to discuss this with your pediatrician.

Why do some babies have more gas than others?

They cry more: Gas! in babies, it comes from swallowing air while drinking milk and while crying. It comes back out as a burp, or it travels thru the gut and comes out the other end as flatus. "gas" doesn't cause crying, colic or fussiness. Conversely, crying causes "gas". Immaturity causes crying, some babies are more immature than others, they cry more, thus, they have more "gas". It goes away after 3 months.

How can I remedy my baby's gas?

Find cause: Many babies have gas...Especially in the evening. If the gas is a lot and the baby is fussy, i like to address diet. Other things that can help with gas include gripe water, a product called cocyntal at the health food store, and for some just probiotics. Sometimes pumping the legs gently like a bicycle will help the baby release gas. Massaging clockwise around the belly button helps move gas.
A 43-year-old member asked:

Is it normal to not feel my baby move for a day?

Depends: It depends on how far along you are. Most women feel movment first at 18-20 weeks. From there until about 30 weeks fetal movements may not be regular and you may not feel them every day. After 30 weeks, you should feel your baby move every day. If you are ever worried it is easier and safer to get checked then to stay at home wondering.
