See your dentist!: There are many possibilities, but for solitary lesions of the tongue, I always refer patients to their dentist or an oral surgeon, just on the very rare chance that it's some kind of oral cancer or precancerous lesion. Again, this is rare, particularly for a 33 year old, but it always has to be ruled out. Other possibilities are geographic tongue, leukoplakia, thrush, oral lichen planus.
