14 days before cycle: Most variation in cycle length is in the follicle stages (the part before ovulation). The luteal phase (from ovulation until menses) is usually about 14 days. Each cycle can vary though, so ovulation may occur a few days before or after this day.

A 22-year-old female asked:

My cycle runs 33 days, do I still ovulate?

Probably: If your cycle is 33 days every cycle, you get pms symptoms prior to your period such as sore breasts, water retention, or irritability and have mild cramps with your period, then you are ovulating. Ovulation will occur around day 19 instead of day 14.

Normal: Ovulation predictor is a statistical tool, not a perfect measure. You're having normal cycles with regular periods for you.

Need a crystal ball?: Remember that ovulation occurs 14 days before the start of your period. So if your cycle is 28 days, you ovulate on day 14 - counting your first day of bleeding as day #1. If your cycle is 37 days long, you ovulate on day 23. Read toni weschler's great book, "taking charge of your fertility." she gives you a range of tools to help you figure out when you are ovulating. Good luck. Lgromko md.

A 30-year-old female asked:

I ovulated and this is day 26 of my cycle, and my BBT is still high, 98.9 is that normal?

Yes: When ovulation occurs, the basal body temperature rises from the effect of progesterone, which is produced by the ovary once ovulation occurs. If pregnancy does not establish, Progesterone production declines and the BBT lowers.
