Intelligent: Your question is exceptionallly intelligent. You know that chronic pain involves oversensitized nerves. It also tends to involve emotional factors, which then further worsen the pain and its impairments. Those factors can be treated with "psychiatric drugs," -- certain ones -- but it takes an informed clinician to handle the pain, the drug iteractions, etc. This can actually reduce the pain.
