See below: There are two types of copper - inorganic copper such as metal pipe and organic copper from what we eat food. Indigestion or industrial exposure of inorganic copper is result of dementia which is similar presentation of Alzheimer's disease. I enclosed a great article about copper and dementia. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4030141/

Dr. Jack Mutnick

Unknown: Speak with your wilson's specialist first. Then it might be best to have patch testing with an allergist to see if you react to the copper. Very likely it is safe, but there are other alternatives.....Why take the chance?
A 21-year-old member asked:

Are the elderly more acceptable to scabies?

2 doctor answers2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Steven Bowers
Internal Medicine 33 years experience
Not really: Anyone can acquire scabies infestation. All that is required is exposure to the mite. That being said, the elderly may have conditions, such as dementia or aphasia, that may delay them from seeking attention for scabies, and so the infestation may be more advanced at the time of diagnosis.

A 40-year-old member asked:

Are elderly more likely to get sicker from bird flu?

2 doctor answers6 doctors weighed in
Dr. Keegan Duchicela
Family Medicine 14 years experience
Yes.: The elderly, infants and kids, those with a lowered immune system (hiv, cancers, etc), and pregnant women are much more likely to get complications from any type of flu. That's why flu vaccines are so important- even if you don't fall into one of these categories, you may be around someone who does. Give your grandmother a poem for the holidays, not the flu.

Presbyopia: Most people have trouble focussing closely as they get older. Changes in vision from cataracts and/or macular degeneration are also very common. Any sudden change in vision should be evaluated promptly since all of the above occur gradually.
