is the pain in my upper left back caused by an inadvertant muscle pull?

Possibly: It seems you have pain in the left shoulder blade area. Muscular pain in that region is very common. Howevere there are other causes too. Pain from the cervical spine can raditae to the shoulder blade. Pain from the intra-thoracic stuctures can also radiate to the shoulder blade.Only a good history and physical can narrow it down.
