back is really stiff and painful after 3 posterior rib fractures. is this common?

Yes & breathing also: is painful. Usually U go through a period when everything U do hurts, even blinking Ur eyes. The ribs R supported by adjacent ribs so after apprx 10 days things should begin 2 rapidly improve. Any bumping or the area, even riding in a car will take longer on big bump, or a missed step or stumbling will still aggravate it for a few weeks longer. They do heal with no treatment other than B careful.

Yes: There paraspinal Muscles and also inflammation in the area can create a stiff painful back in conjunction with posterior rib fractures. It is also possible that in the same injury that you broke the ribs, you also injured the back itself. I would let your treating physician know.
