Yes: Sleep is natures way of recharging and backing up your system so to speak. Normal sleep amounts of 6-8 hours a day are needed.
It is unusual that you only sleep for 3 hours. This could be due to hyperthryroid, medications, drugs or other nervous conditions. Get a check up and or a sleep study to improve your health.

Maybe narcolepsy: If you are falling asleep unexpectedly, could be narcolepsy. Narcoleptic symptoms can also be part of other problems such as obstructive sleep apnea or sleep deprivation from other causes. If you are getting enough hours of sleep, best to get checked; obstructive sleep apnea has a multitude of preventable bad effects over time.

Try coffee!: Recent studies show that coffee has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and are therefore good for you. Studies also show people who drink coffee have more energy, are less depressed and find it easier to lose weight. I need my 2 cups in the morning !

Depends: I don't know your age or overall health, but it seems you are basically healthy. There are a few things you should consider. One, is a test for your thyroid funciton. A simple blood test could give you the answer. Medications? These can do the same. Do you snore? Sleep apnea can be insidious! i would suggest a good check up, some labs and hopefully some reassurance and continue exercising.

Sleep: No this is not normal. Are you taking any meds that could have this as a side effect? Do you snore, perhaps you have sleep apnea. This needs to be discussed with your physician soon.

Common question: Typically it requires spending less time in the bedroom. Only visit it when you have an iirresistible urge to fall asleep. Unless sleep is not restful, you can get up at first awakening. Many only need only 6 hour per night. The key is it restful.
