Absolutely, however: mechanism of weight gain/↑ed blood sugar clearly not the artificial sweeteners per-se. Far more likely the issue is supporting/promoting behaviors of seeking sweet tastes & eating more carbs while thinking this would be OK, compensated for by the artificial sweetener. Tiny imbalances, over time, will produce significant changes in body fat.
