Are colored costume lenses bad for your eyes?

Dr. Michael Rizen answered
Ophthalmology 20 years experience
Can be: Contact lenses should only be prescribed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist (even if your vision is normal without them). You should never just go buy them on their own. They have to be fit properly on your eye and you need to be shown how to care for and clean the lenses in order to prevent infection. These lenses can be safely worn if they are fit properly and cared for properly.

A 47-year-old member asked:
Do infrared cameras like security cameras pose a risk to human eyes?

Dr. Richard Bensinger answered

No: Infrared cameras record light in the beyond red end of the visible spectrum. Fires, heat lamps and the sun put out far more infrared than such cameras and many of them emit no light at all but only record the image. It is the short wavelength end that is a problem such as uv light.
