how do diseases attack the central nervous system?

Is this for a school: Project? I see you have quite a few general nervous system questions that are all quite general. The type I might have asked when I was teaching college. This question is too general for 400 characters or less and I wouldn't want to take away one's opportunity to earn a grade (and an education fairly).
