Get examined: Swelling in the armpit or axilla can be due to inflammation of the sweat glands or the hair follicles especially if started after an episode of shaving the hair in this area. Lymph nodes in this region can also be enlarged if they react to infections or to cancer of the breast but wouldn't be painful early on. Get a check up to see what is the problem and if a biopsy is needed.
