Listen to MD: Depression is a medical disorder just like any other medical conditions. There is limit to what our body can heal itself, after that limit it needs help; medications and therapy. Conjoint discussion: Your therapist and your md (i hope a psychiatrist) need to discuss your situation and come to consensus about your treatment. You, of course, have the choice of whether to take the Prozac (fluoxetine) or not -- but you should not be in the middle of 2 professionals disagreeing about your care. Psychotherapy is an essential part of recovery from depression; meds may still be needed, at least for a time.
