A 48-year-old female asked:

What are the symptoms of retinopathy in premature babies?

Can be diffcult: Signs of retinopathy in babies can include a white reflex when taking a picture, nystagmus, crosses or drifting eyes. Since a normal baby has poor vision early in life, you may not be able to tell just by interacting. If the baby is premature and meets certain criteria, the neonatologist or pediatrician should know when to involve the ophthalmologist to exam for signs of rop.
Dr. Sandra Lora Cremers

Sometimes none: Retinopathy of prematurity can occur in premature infants weighing about 2¾ pounds (1250 grams) or less that are born before 31 weeks of gestation (a full-term pregnancy has a gestation of 38–42 weeks). It is potentially blinding. Often there are no symptoms as these babies are pre-verbal. In severe rop a baby may not react to light and eventually not fix or follow objects.

Depends: If it's mild, observation. If it's more severe, then laser of the retina. In the most severe cases, then retinal surgery like vitrectomy. Newer treatment are including eye injections of anti-vegf agents.
