Woke up with a sore foot, could it be gout?

Possibly: Many of my patients do wake up to a gouty attack. It is usually in the "bunion" joint or the ankle. The area will be red, swollen and very painful. If you have these symptoms and/or a history of gout, see a podiatrist for symptomatic relief. Either he or your family doctor may want to place you on preventative medication as well.
