If disc enlarges: Consider that the problems on right could represent an overuse syndrome and not a new nerve compression issue, but you may have nerve issues bilaterally, just different on each side. Get this fully evaluated and treated. See a spine surgeon and go from there.

A member asked:

I have a herniated c5-6 disc, how common is this, how can it be treated, and can it become fatal if not treated properly?

Common: Neck and low back disc problems are very common. See them almost daily. Very treatable with many options. Usually start with physical therapy. Epidural steroid injections in the neck are often used if surgery does not appear necessary, especially if pain or numbness go down an arm. Not fatal. Usually a broken neck is the only fatal injury to be concerned with, not a herniated disc.

Depends: This may not mean anything. What's more important is are you having symptoms? If you are having neck or arm pain further treatment is likely warranted.

5th cervical vertebr: C5 refers to the fifth vertebra in the neck. The first vertebra is at the base of the skull, so the fifth is in the middle of the neck. Injuries to the spinal cord above this level impair the body's ability to breathe.
A 32-year-old member asked:

What are the treatment plans for a c5-6 herniation/protrusion?

Physical therapy: For neck, shoulder, or arm pain related to the disc problem, physical therapy is the best initial choice. Most people with this problem do not end up requiring an epidural injection or surgery. An MRI scan is not usually needed unless physical therapy fails to provide good improvement. Ultimately your healthcare provider needs to decide the sequence of treatment depending on symptoms and signs.

Probably Degen Disc: Loss of disc t2w signal indicates drying out, loss of some water content, commonly seen with intervertebral disc degenerative changes.
