Sunlight and acne: Actually, sunlight helps acne! several laser treatments for acne are based on this principle. Visible light (not uv or infrared) acts on by products of the bacteria to generate a singlet oxygen molecule. This molecule is the toxic to the bacteria and will kill it. The only problem is with sunlight you get damaging uv light at the same time. The amount of exposure needed can cause skin damage.
