Not staining: Braces do not stain teeth. If you don't keep your teeth clean while wearing braces, the accumulating food & bacteria in your mouth can demineralize your teeth resulting in white spots and decay. This is also true without wearing braces, it’s just more likely as it is harder to keep them clean with all the brackets, bands & wires. Most patients even with moderately good care seldom get this.

NO WORRY: The braces won't stain your teeth. You may get staining from plaque formation around the brackets. Get an electric toothbrush that has rotory bristles (rotodent by zila is one) that can effectively go behind the wires to clean efficiently.

Home Cleaning: Braces do not stain teeth. What stains the teeth is when you fail to keep the teeth clean. Use a soft brush in circles around the teeth, braces, and gum tissue. Follow it up with using a water pik also in circles. Remember that braces cannot stain teeth - only your failure to clean them.

Several things: Plaque and acid cause stains around braces. There are many great products available to reduce and disrupt plaque with some of the most popular being oral-b and sonicare toothbrushes. A traditional, soft-bristle manual brush will also do an excellent job. Consider the sonicare air-floss as well as an adult to supplement your brushing and flossing regime.
