Yes, but...: While jia can be diagnosed by other physicians (pediatricians, orthopaedists) the best doctors to treat jia are rheumatologists. You want to see a doctor that keeps up with the literature and knows the subject very well. While i (as a pediatric orthopaedist) feel comfortable making the diagnosis, i always refer my patients for treatment/management. Hope this helps.

Kids with JIA need a pediatric rheumatologist.Although patients often need to travel several hours to see one,it is worthwhile for best care

Not reliably: Should be seen a board certified pediatric rheumatologist for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Jia is a clinical diagnosis--there is absolutely no blood test or imaging (other than an MRI with contrast)that can make the diagnosis. It presents differently than RA in adults and so is not reliably diagnosed by even adult board certified rheumatologists without special extensive training in peds rheum.

Doctor for JIA: JIA is diagnosed when a child has arthritis for > 6 weeks. This may be diagnosed by a primary care physician or a specialist. A pediatric rheumatologist is the type of physician who would have the most training in diagnosing and managing rheumatic diseases in children

Many things..: Many things, but most are inflammatory, since the tests for inflammation will also be high! rheumatic fever; lyme disease. These are two post-infectious issues. You need to see a rheumatologist if possible, and even better, if near a major university medical center, one of the handful or pediatric rheumatologists. Most children can be remiited with jia!
