Is it safe for my 5 yr old to take benadryl (diphenhydramine) if shes on ritalin?

Yes: Both are safe medications for children this age.

Yes and no: The combination is safe, but effects of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) on brain function mimic the defects of adhd. So she may have decreased attention & executive functions using benadryl (diphenhydramine). Only use for Benadryl (diphenhydramine) in adhd patient is for life threatening allergic reaction. Chronic use decreases brain function. Try to find an alternative to Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for your child, a second generation antihistamine for allergies, eg.
