what is the pap smear purpose? and what can happen if you don't follow up? please answer.

To prevent cancer: A pap smear is done on a regular basis to prevent (ideally) or detect (last chance) cancer of the cervix. If you do not get one, you are at risk of developing cancer. If you do not followup on an abnormal one, you at a higher risk of cancer.
