Urinalysis, also C&S: Symptoms of burning pain with and frequency of urination common with uti. Also foul smelling urine &/or pelvic or flank pain. Dipstick urine test containing nitrite reagent is quite reliable in demonstrating presence of uti, bacteria can actually be seen in urine by microscopy. Urine can and should be cultured to identify bacterial species and antibiotics to which the bacteria are sensitive.
