Liquid antacid, etc.: First of all, take heart. The tongue heals very quickly. For the pain until it does heal, try rinsing with a liquid antacid like maalox, or you can have your doctor prescribe magic mouthrinse which has a liquid antacid combined with a numbing agent and an antihistamine. I have also heard that putting a teaspoon of sugar on the tongue and letting it sit there until it dissolves helps, too.
