eyelids itched like crazy, head felt like it would explode. scratched eyes, they puffed. took 50mg benadryl, (diphenhydramine) it helped. what causes this?

Allergies: There are some good over the counter drops you could use initially- zaditor, (ketotifen) alloway. This will take care of the itching and may limit the swelling.
