how probable is it for an 72 year old male survivor of melanoma skin cancer to die before age 80?

Age doesn't matter: Depth does... Your surgeon or dermatologist can tell you how deep the melanoma was...The deeper the more dangerous. The prognosis for a melanoma depends on how deep the tumor grew before removal and if it spread anywhere... Best wishes.

Very likely: Melanoma is one of the most aggressive cancers. At 80 mortality by any cause is very high for any reason. Human beings live as average 76 if female and 72 if male. It is very likely to die at 80 for any reason.
