Liposuction pricing: The cost of liposuction will vary depending on a number of factors. These include surgeon's fees, facility fees, and anesthesia fees. Each of these costs depend on how many areas are treated and how long the procedure will take. Also, whether this is performed in a hospital or outpatient setting and the type of anesthesia ( local with sedation or general anesthesia ) will also determine pricing.

Cost of lipo: It depends on how many areas you want treated. Generally $4, 000 to 7, 000.
Dr. Dennis Dass

Variable: This is highly dependent on how many areas need to be treated, because this determines surgical time and costs.

Liposuction cost: A very general estimate is $ 2, 000 to 3, 500 dollars per area [total price]. The cost of liposuction will vary depending on a number of factors. These include surgeon's fees, facility fees, and anesthesia fees. If it is performed in a hospital or outpatient setting there can be added fee and the type anesthesia[ general anesthesia requires an anesthesiologist] which can add fee.

My Cost Estimates: Included: surgeon's fees, anesthesia, facility fee, implants. Liposuction: $4, 000 – $12, 000 (dependent upon the areas/combination of areas).

Are there big risks to liposuction?

Depends: It depends on your overall health, and how much liposuction is being done. In general, if you are healthy and do not undergo large volume liposuction, it is a relatively safe procedure. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks. I recommend discussing your personal situation with a board certified plastic surgeon who could explain the risks and come up with the best treatment plan for you.

Are there liposuction complications that happen often?

Dr. Jon Perlman
Plastic Surgery 48 years experience
Not if done properly: Complications from liposuction are very rare if patient and doctor selection are made carefully. For example a patient with loose skin after weight loss is not a very good candidate for lipo whereas someone with good skin elasticity and localized extra fat is. An unskilled surgeon or a poor candidate for the procedure can cause bad results and even complications. Choose wisely!

What happens to the fat after liposuction?

Permanent removal: The fat that is removed is permanently gone. The remaining fat cells (not all are removed in any area) may still get larger with weight gain, but the proportions should be much better.

Dr. Richard Tholen
Plastic Surgery 41 years experience
Age 18, if needed: If you are at or close to ideal weight, have localized excess fatty tissues, and have good overlying skin tone, you are a good candidate to see an abps-certified plastic surgeon experienced in the various liposuction techniques that might be appropriate for you. Liposuction is not a weight-loss technique.
