How come children vomit when they have the flu?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Bert Mandelbaum
23 years experience in Pediatrics
Many causes: Vomiting is a common symptom in children when they are sick. Some viruses (typically called stomach viruses), can cause symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Sometimes vomiting occurs after coughing fits or after swallowing mucous. Vomiting is not usually concerning, as long as the child remains well hydrated, is acting normally and the vomiting is not bloody or bile-colored (green).
